PRIZE money totalling £4,000 is the bait to get anglers interested in a sea fishing competition being held in east Durham.
The open contest organised by Easington District Council will be held on Sunday, February 4, on the stretch of coast between Ryhope Dene and Crimdon Dene.
The top prize of £2,000 will go to the angler who catches the heaviest fish. The second prize is £1,000, and prizes of £500 down to £125, will be given for third, fourth and fifth places.
Prizes of £60 plus £300-worth of fishing equipment will be given to the winners of the women's, disabled and junior sections of the competition.
The competition will run from 11am to 4pm and registration will take place at Seaham Leisure Centre from 8am until noon. Entry is £7.
Anglers can also register in advance at Coast Road Fishing Tackle, Horden; Bait Box, Seaham; Rigs Angling Supplies, Seaham; Cairns, Hartlepool and Rutherfords, Sunderland.
