YOUNG volunteers are appealing for help to redecorate a flat that will provide a temporary home for homeless youngsters.
A team of 12 is working on a Prince's Trust Volunteers scheme to get the flat looking good for the End House youth project.
So they are appealing for donations of materials, help and funding for the work.
One of the volunteers, Shane Brown, of Sherburn Road, was helped to find accommodation by End House when he was homeless.
"I was living on the street but I got somewhere to live and I have got my life together," he said.
"End House really does help people and that is why I am willing to help them. I am doing it to say thanks."
Another volunteer, Melisa Stephenson, said: "We hoping to do the flat up, redecorate it, put in curtains and semi-furnish it.
"We have got help from a paint firm and another firm that it supplies.
"We are hoping we'll be able to get funding from Durham County Council to help us with the project.
"We are also on the look-out for any materials, help or funding that other people can give us.
"Things like curtains, paint brushes and rollers or carpets - anything that we can put in a flat.
"We want to do the job to the best our ability."
The volunteers, aged 16 to 25, aim to start work on the flat, in Ramsey Close, Sherburn Road, at the end of the month.
They are doing it as part of a 12-week programme that includes team-building activities, a residential week, community projects and work experience.
Anyone who can help should call the volunteers through YMCA Training on 0191-384 2713
