TOWN councillors at Whitby are to give an annual bursary to a gifted child in the town to mark the millennium.
Councillor Maurice Hatton said there was already £4,000 in the fund and it was planned to give an annual £1,000 bursary.
Councillor Dorothy Clegg said "It is a commendable way of spending public money because it will benefit some young people who would otherwise have probably not been able to undertake further studies.
