Wensleydale Creamery League
The league's two representatives in the North Riding Saturday Challenge Cup quarter-finals were knocked out on Saturday.
Leyburn travelled to meet Staithes Athletic but, after holding their own for much of the match, were eventually beaten 4-2. Paul Theaker put the home side in front after seven minutes, but Leyburn equalised through Keith Webster. Lee Gibson restored Staithes' lead before the interval, but after 52 minutes Alan Muir levelled the scores at 2-2. The home side went ahead for the third time in the match after 56 minutes through Neil Read, but this time the visitors couldn't respond and Gibson settled the tie with a fourth goal for Staithes after 81 minutes.
Carperby entertained St Mary's College Old Boys and were beaten by the only goal of the game in the opening minute of the match. They missed a gilt-edged chance to equalise after 30 minutes when Dave Moore fired a penalty over the bar after Nick Oliver had been brought down in the area by the visitors' 'keeper.
Carperby improved in the second half but were unable to get the equaliser.
Hawes United increased their lead at the top of the table to five points when they extended their unbeaten run to 11 games with a 7-1 win at Reeth.
Nick Prince put the visitors ahead after 15 minutes, but midway through the half Len Cloughton conceded a penalty and Terry Alderson equalised from the spot kick. On the half-hour another penalty, this time for Hawes, saw Mark Alderson re-establish their lead and John Banks made it 3-1.
Five minutes into the second half Reeth gave away another penalty and Mark Alderson again made no mistake. Two goals by Stuart Dinsdale within the space of three minutes saw Hawes race into a 6-1 lead and Richard Cloughton added a seventh.
Richmond Mavericks closed up on the leaders, beating Redmire at home, winning 8-0 to record their sixth win in succession.
Kris Wharton, Ben Waite and Clive Layfield put them 3-0 ahead at the interval and after the break Martin Clark, Layfield and an own goal doubled the home side's tally. In the closing stages Craig Vincent added a seventh before Layfield completed his hat-trick to round off the scoring.
Bowes moved up into fifth place in the table on goal difference with a 6-0 home victory over Richmond Buck, who have lost their last four league outings.
Robert Wilkinson put the home side in front after 20 minutes, but the visitors held out until the 57th minute before Brian Donald added a second. Two quick goals from Scott Walker and Matt Salmons saw Bowes dominate the game 4-0 and in the final minutes Walker added two further goals to complete his second hat-trick of the season.
Bishopdale lost valuable points when they entertained the much-improved Askrigg side and were held to a goalless draw in a game of very few clear cut chances. It was the first time the home side had failed to score in a league match this season and Askrigg are now unbeaten in six league games.
Spennithorne extended their unbeaten run to four league matches when they drew 1-1 at Middleham Town.
In the early stages the visitors twice hit the woodwork, but it was Middleham who took the lead after 22 minutes with a goal in off the bar by John Stubbs. In the second half Spennithorne pressed for an equaliser and were rewarded after 65 minutes when Carl Fowler levelled the scores.
After gaining only a single point from their first 17 games, Catterick Village recorded their first victory of the season when they won 2-1 at Swale Travaux.
Clive Bell put them ahead after 20 minutes and midway through the second half he headed home a second. Travaux hit back with a header by John Potter after 78 minutes, but were unable to get on terms. The closest they came to an equaliser was a shot which hit the Catterick upright and Travaux have now gained only one point from their last four league games.
In a delayed Dales Cup first round tie, Hawes B had a 3-1 home victory over Catterick Garrison. The visitors opened the scoring but on the half-hour Stuart Haygarth levelled the scores. Stuart Sunter put the home side ahead after 65 minutes and ten minutes from time he settled the issue to make it 3-1. Hawes B now play Reeth away in the next round.
