DISHFORTH ploughing society's annual match, cancelled in November owing to bad weather, was held on Saturday by courtesy of Mr and Mrs B Wise of Holme Farm, Skipton-on-Swale, Thirsk.
The conditions were exceedingly good, after all the rain in past months. The event went ahead with a crisp frosty start turning into bright winter sunshine, and a turn-out of 73 ploughmen took part.
Mr T Charlton won the local trophy and the Lawrence Redman memorial trophy for the best work on the day was awarded to Mr Geoff Fretwell of Penistone Sheffield. The youngest competitor, Master John Hill from Norfolk, was presented with a glass tankard.
