CONCERNED residents have been told that Stockton Borough Council has no control over plans to erect a mobile phone mast in Eaglescliffe.
Orange wants to build a one-metre wide dish and an antennae on a 50-metre high national grid pylon near Hunters Rest Farm, in Eaglescliffe.
The council has had a number of calls from residents concerned about the proposal, but officers have stressed they can do nothing about the mast.
Barry Jackson, Stockton council's development control officer, said: "The company only needs the permission of the National Grid to erect the antennae, it does not need to consult the local planning authority.
"We have, however, received notification of prior approval for an equipment cabin at the foot of the pylon, which we are consulting local residents about. This will go through our normal planning process."
The council has 28 days from the notification to respond to Orange about the proposed equipment cabin.
