A superb rearguard performance earned Middlesbrough a well deserved point at Anfield this afternoon.
In the opening 45 minutes Boro more than matched their more illustrious opponents with Alen Boksic and Christian Karembeu outstanding.
After the break the away team failed to maintain their earlier endeavour, but an excellent rearguard display with Paul Ince marshalling his troops with authority kept the Liverpool attack at bay.
England striker Michael Owen, who came on for the injured Emile Heskey, wasted three clear-cut chances to leave Terry Venables a more than happy man.
