BARNARDO'S projects on Tyneside have received 42,000 free books from the children's book company, Bright Sparks.
The picture books have been donated to projects in Newcastle, North Tyneside, Gateshead and Blyth, which work with children throughout the area.
They introduce four toddler characters and adventures with jungle animals in a series of illustrated stories.
They have been distributed to Barnardo's family centres locally, as well as to specialist services which the charity runs.
These include adoption and fostering projects, a service for children who have suffered a traumatic bereavement and a project working with children who have been sexually abused.
Bright Sparks' books are aimed at children aged six and under. The company has donated 75,000 books in total to Barnardo's services all across the UK.
Tracy Hassan, of the Longbenton Early Years Centre, said: "We were delighted to get these books for our children and parents.
