PEOPLE are calling on Darlington Borough Council to re-open a youth club in a popular community centre.
The club, in the Skerne Park centre, was closed before Christmas and has not been re-opened.
Local people attended a meeting on Friday night and were told it was closed because of dwindling numbers.
But they say at least 20 children were using the youth club three times a week, and that is more than enough to warrant it to stay open.
Joyce Standing, secretary of the Skerne Park Youth and Community Centre, said: "The youth club was closed without any consultation with people on the estate.
"It's all right for the council to say there were not enough children using the club, but it meant there were at least 20 children who were not roaming the streets on a night."
A spokesman for Darlington council has said that the authority is investigating different ways of delivering support services to young people on the estate.
