AN ash tree could be saved from being felled by councillors concerned about the environment.
A resident of Thornaby Road, Thornaby, has applied to Stockton Borough Council for permission to cut down the ash tree, which is protected by a preservation order.
The resident has claimed the tree could be causing structural damage to their property, as well as concern over falling branches.
Councillors will be urged at a meeting on Friday to refuse permission for the felling.
A council spokesman said: "The tree makes a major contribution to the street scene being of special amenity value, and its removal would have a seriously detrimental effect on the visual appearance and character of Thornaby conservation area."
