FOOTBALLER Niall Quinn launched a poolside chair lift for people with disabilities yesterday.
The Sunderland player was at the Pioneering Care Centre, in Newton Aycliffe, for the launch, which involved disabled people who use the centre demonstrating how the chair lift enables easy access to the hydrotherapy pool.
The Irish Republic international player met one of his team's biggest fans, Paul Coates, who has from Multiple Sclerosis. He used the lift with Niall's help.
The chair, which was provided with the help of a £7,000 donation from the Halifax Bank's Community Relations Programme, will enable disabled people to use the centre's hydrotherapy pool with dignity and comfort.
The centre, which was opened in February last year by the Princess Royal, offers a range of services and support for local people disadvantaged by ill-health, disability, age or caring responsibilities
