CUSTARD pies and pantomime cows proved the winning formula for an amateur drama group's new year show.
Centre Stage, from Shildon, performed their last production of Jack and the Beanstalk on Sunday.
The show was a runaway success, playing to a full house every night.
More than 200 people packed into Shildon Civic Hall to see each of the group's four shows, which included the youth branch of the group, the Tearaways.
Director Derrick Robinson thanked the cast, backstage workers and the audience for making sure the pantomime went with a bang.
"We were really, really pleased so many people from Shildon and Bishop Auckland, Newton Aycliffe and Darlington came to support us," he said.
But the show must go on, and Centre Stage are already looking ahead to their next production, which will be an Agatha Christie murder mystery.
