A youth accused of badly beating another teenager in a street attack has been denied bail by a Crown Court judge.
The 17-year-old, from Hartlepool, who can not be named for legal reasons, appeared at Teesside Crown Court yesterday.
He was refused a bail application by a judge in chambers at the court.
David Young, 17, of Raby Road, Hartlepool, was attacked in the town's Queen's Parade, near the entrance to the Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, early on Saturday, January 13.
He was rushed to Middlesbrough General Hospital's intensive care unit with possible brain damage and his parents, John and Tracy, began a vigil at his bedside.
On Monday night, after making a sudden recovery, David was allowed home.
His father said: "It is marvellous to have him back home. His recovery is remarkable, nothing short of a miracle.
"The staff at the ITU unit are heaven-sent. We could never have done without them. They have been unbelievable."
David, who has been ordered to rest at home, is sitting up and talking to his family and friends
