A MOTHER whose nipple fell off following a breast reduction operation has lost her case for compensation.
Tracey Rochester, 33, , of Cullercoats, North Tyneside, underwent the surgery to reduce her size 40FF breasts, in April 1994.
She made a claim for damages based on the negligence of consultant plastic surgeon Alan Piggot and his team at Newcastle General Hospital.
Mrs Rochester told Newcastle County Court that she was given no proper advice regarding any major negative side-effects of the operation performed. She said that, had she been warned of the possible outcome, she would never have gone ahead.
But Judge Esmond Faulks, in a written judgement, dismissed her claims. He said: "It would not, in my judgement, have altered Mrs Rochester's decision to elect for surgery. She was, as she said, 'at the end of her tether' about her breasts, She was highly motivated towards surgery,"
Mrs Rochester's nipple fell off after she went back to the hospital in pain. She had a further four operations and was left with scarring.
