RADIO presenter Ana Schofield felt the long arm of the law while she was presenting her programme yesterday.

The 26-year-old Metro Radio DJ, daughter of Eastenders actor Leslie Schofield, was "arrested'' by two bobbies in the middle of her breakfast show. She had been caught speeding in Portsmouth before Christmas and had not paid her £30 fine.

PCs John Bowlt and Lee Stevenson went round to the station's Gateshead studios armed with a warrant and handcuffed her.

Ana, whose show attracts more than 350,000 listeners a week, was stunned when she was confronted by the boys in blue.

She said: "I was done for speeding in Portsmouth before Christmas and pleaded guilty by letter at a magistrates court. When the officer was putting the handcuffs on me I tried to remember whether I'd paid the £30 fine or not.

"I went into a cold sweat when I realised I hadn't. I felt awful. It was so embarrassing, especially when I was being arrested live on air."

Fortunately for Ana the arrest was a practical joke dreamed up by her producer Martin Green and she did not end up in the cells. Mr Martin said: "PCs Stevenson and Bowlt came in before they started duty and did the business. They were brilliant."
