Once again, Saturday's programme was hit by waterlogged grounds. In the league, with Darlington RA. on cup duty, Shildon Railway and Cockfield had a chance to cut their lead at the top but both lost. Shildon Railway went down 3-2 at home to Black and Decker. The Railwaymen led at half-time, with goals from Stewart Blackett and Will Swinburne, with Curt Warburton replying for Black and Decker, but two second half goals from David Upton and Lee Thistlewaite secured the points for Black and Decker.

A goal in each half from Tommy Kelly gave DSRM a 2-0 win over Cockfield to move them up the table. The only other league game played was the derby between Middleton Wanderers and Glaxo. a goal in the last five minutes from John Williams giving Middleton the points to move them off the bottom.

In the last remaining Auckland Charity Cup quarter-final, Witton Park beat Coxhoe Athletic 2-1. Witton Park opened the scoring with a Derek Cooper free-kick, a lead which they held until half-time. In the second half both sides had a player sent off, then Phil Lawson equalised for Coxhoe and just when the game appeared to be going into extra time, Witton Park were awarded a penalty in the last minute, which Derek Cooper converted. Quinns Inn made hard work of beating Howden Australian, and came back from 2-1 down to win 3-2, goals coming from Stephen Quinn 2, and Martin Longthorne.

The other Weardale Cup tie between Ebchester and Brandon Station was postponed due to a waterlogged ground.

Both Sacriston Aged Miners Cup ties between Durham Victoria and Darlington RA and Brewer and Firkin and Roddymoor, were also postponed.

Emergency Services League

Only three matches survived last week's midweek freeze. In the League Cup, first round, Stockton pulled off a major surprise, beating Frankland Prison Officers 7-0, Frankland's heaviest defeat in league and cup competition.

Playing devastating counter attacking football, Stockton booked themselves a second round place, Noel Young leading the way with a hat-trick, Mick Higgin (2), Liam Denny and Jimmy Walton the other scorers.

Washington Police got through thanks to Darlington's inability to field a team. They will face Newcastle Police in the second round as they got a bye.

In Group A of the Wanless McConnell Shield, Durham HQ and Langbaurgh drew 2-2. Langbaurgh were two up thanks to a brace by Mick Brown. Then Langbaurgh's keeper was injured and Mick Button pulled a goal back. In the last seconds of injury time Ken Judd grabbed an equaliser, to stretch HQs unbeaten run to five games.

The only league game was played at Annfield Plain where Derwentside and Durham CLS Police drew 1-1. Both goals came before the interval, with Ellis Hall converting a penalty, following a foul on Darren Ellis for the Durham Side. Tony Mudram equalised for Derwentside with a 25- yard drive
