Sunderland booked their place in the next round of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win over fellow Premiership high-flyers Ipswich at the Stadium of Light.

The visitors could well have been the team in the next round after Marcus Stewart and former Middlesbrough striker Alun Armstrong both squandered glorious first half opportunities.

Daniel Dichio staked his claim for a place in next week's clash with Manchester United with the only goal of the game - a precise diving header at the far post.

Peter Reid's side are in the fifth round for the first time since 1992 when the Wearsiders reached the final.

There was no repeat of Hartlepool's 6-1 hammering of Barnet last year but Pool boss Chris Turner will be delighted after seeing his side stroll to a comfortable 3-1 win at Underhill this afternoon.

Striker Kevin Henderson opened the scoring for Pool early in the first half and the 27-year-old doubled the visitors' advantage with a clinical second just after the interval.

Player/manager Tony Cottee pulled a goal back for Barnet but young Sam Shilton wrapped things up with Pool's third after 63 minutes.

Lincoln City veteran John Schofield rescued a point for Darlington with a last minute own goal. Brian Atkinson put the Quakers 1-0 up from the penalty spot after 38 minutes.

City equalised after the interval through Middlesbrough-born defender Steve Holmes.

Striker Tony Battersby looked to have clinched all three points for the home side with Lincoln's second after 56 minutes but it was 35-year-old Schofield who would have the final say, turning the ball into his own net with just minutes remaining.
