HOUSEHOLDERS will soon be able to do their own recycling in an innovative green scheme.
Groundwork West Durham hopes to secure enough funding to offer 2,000 subsidised compost bins to Wear Valley homes. The bins will enable householders to recycle waste such as vegetable peelings and tea bags for use in their gardens and allotments.
The scheme, aimed particularly at deprived communities, will cost about £8,000.
Wear Valley District Council decides on Thursday whether to give £2,000 to the project. Other funding will be from the Single Regeneration Budget.
