LOCAL business people can learn how to prevent fraud while enjoying bacon and eggs at a breakfast seminar.
The Business Security Initiative, Cleveland Police and Business Link Tees Valley have joined forces to warn firms in the Tees Valley area about the risk of fraud.
They have organised the "Protect Your Business from Fraud" seminar in an effort to reduce the local incidence of a crime which affects 60 per cent of businesses nationally.
It will address the problems of credit card and employee fraud, and forensic accountants will give advice on implementing systems to prevent fraud.
Carol Hodgson, project manager of the Business Security Initiative, said: "We are delighted to be working with Cleveland Police and Business Link Tees Valley to increase business understanding of the risks from fraud. Given that only 29 per cent of the money taken fraudulently is recovered, and 54 per cent of UK businesses report losses due to fraud in excess of £54,000, you realise just how important it is for businesses to get to grips with the issue."
Detective Inspector Bill Matthews of Cleveland Police Fraud Investigation Team said: "The seminar is an ideal opportunity for businesses to heighten their awareness and protect themselves from becoming a victim."
The seminar takes place on February 21, from 7.45am to 11am at the BT Cellnet Stadium, Middlesbrough. To book a place, ring Carol Hodgson on (01642) 806 666 or Det Insp Bill Matthews on (01642) 301 414
