THE traditional art of lead work glazing is slowly becoming a thing of the past, but a father and son team are hoping to revitalise the industry in the region.
Bill Laidler and son Scott, 20, have started their own Chester-le-Street business combining traditional glazing methods and modern technology.
Scott Designs uses technology, which involves computer artwork design, and traditional techniques which involve leading round the design, adding the colours, cutting the lead around the design and re-soldering every cross point.
Scott said: "We decided to set up our own business because we wanted to bring together my father's business skills with my own designs and ideas.
"I have worked elsewhere but I was tired of being paid a boy's wages for doing a man's job, so we decided to start our own family business."
