A NORTH-EAST airport has launched its own guide for youngsters wanting a career in the travel business.

Prospects lists all the jobs available at Newcastle Airport - from cabin crew to air traffic control, security or firefighting.

It was produced with the Northumberland Education Business Partnership and includes useful tips on interview techniques, producing a CV and filling out job application forms.

The airport is one of the region's major employers with 3,300 working for the 69 companies at the site.

This could rise to about 5,000 in the next five years as the airport predicts passenger numbers will rise from three million a year to about five million.

Airport personnel manager Gemma Forster said: "There are a huge number of young people who would like to pursue a career at the airport. With this guide we can now offer them comprehensive careers guidance and information on the skills and qualifications required.''

Norman Tomlin, education manager for the Northumberland Education Business Partnership, said: "Prospects is an excellent example of the benefits of education and business working together.

"I'm confident that young people will have a much better understanding of the airport's operations after using it.'
