VISITORS to Rose Severs' house are left in no doubt about her great passion in life - as they pick their way through the penguins.
For 13 years, she has been unable to resist the tuxedoed gents of the bird world.
She and her husband, David, share their home, in Northallerton, with more than 400 of the creatures, in all shapes and sizes.
There are ornaments, vases, cushions, T-shirts, flasks and slippers, all in the unmistakable shape of her favourite bird. Many of them come from as far afield as Brazil, Ecuador, the former USSR and the US.
In April, everyone will be able to examine her collection, when they feature in an exhibition in Northallerton.
Other collectors are being encouraged to bring their favourite objects along to the event, which is raising funds for Hospice Homecare, the chosen charity of the mayor, Jack Dobson.
"It all started when I saw the birds at Edinburgh Zoo," said Rose, who is known to some of her friends as the Penguin Lady.
"I bought a poster, and it snowballed from that. People send me them for birthdays and Christmas, and I browse in antiques fairs looking for them."
Collectors interested in the event should contact Mr and Mrs Severs on (01609) 771867, or Jack Dobson on (01609) 775012.
