A MARATHON wheelchair push between two football club grounds looks likely to raise about £3,000 for charity.
Friends Paul Hodgson and Ian Carter came up with the idea of the push, from Darlington's Feethams ground to York City's Bootham Crescent.
They braved heavy rain to complete the 60- mile trek in about 30 hours - only to find Saturday's game between the two clubs postponed.
They said their efforts had still been worthwhile and some of the cash will now go to Mr Hodgson's old school, Percy Hedley at Newcastle. The rest will go to Colburn Primary School, near Catterick Garrison, to pay for a disabled lift.
Mr Hodgson, who has been confined to a wheelchair since contracting meningitis as a child, is a lifelong Darlington FC fan and has written a book of his experiences.
The cash will be handed over to the schools at a charity night at Darlington's Springfield pub, on Wednesday, March 31
