A MAN with a reputation as a womaniser was gunned down by a jealous rival, a court was told yesterday.

Lee King, 32, had a one-night stand with a former lover of Keith McQuade, 47, after which he called her a slut.

Mr McQuade stuck a sawn-off shotgun into Mr King's back in a Teesside street in the early hours of the morning and blasted him through the heart, said James Spencer, prosecuting.

As his rival lay wounded, Mr McQuade reloaded and shot him in the head at close range, Mr Spencer said.

It was alleged that Mr McQuade later acted out the killing to two friends, saying that Mr King turned his back on the gun, saying: "You wouldn't dare."

Mr McQuade was alleged to have said that he was going to enjoy himself for a couple of days before giving himself up to the police, which he did.

But he refused to answer questions about the killing, and the police had to build up the picture for themselves, Teesside Crown Court heard.

Mr Spencer said that Mr McQuade told a friend that Mr King had made a fool of him over the woman, Lisa Piercey.

Mr Spencer told the court that Mr McQuade said: "He told me about sleeping with Lisa and said that she was only a slut. I told him 'You don't need to do something like that to me' and I pointed the gun at him. He said 'You won't do something like that to me,' and walked away."

The court was told that Mr McQuade added: "I shot him once in the back and then in the head."

Mr King, of Stonor Walk, Park End, was found dead in Penistone Road, Park End, Middlesbrough.

Mr McQuade, of Kenilworth Avenue, Park End, denies murdering him on January 28 last year.
