A MAN accused of raping an old friend after she returned to her empty home following a girls' night out, was acquitted following a trial.

Newcastle Crown Court was told that Lee Turnbull, 24, who denied the rape charge, called at the woman's house in the early hours of September 3 last year.

Mr Turnbull, of Clarence Street, Bowburn, County Durham, was arrested, but denied being at the woman's home that night.

Although he later confessed they had sex, he said she became angry after she found out he was seeing someone else.
