SIXTY North-East teenagers have emerged unscathed from a snowbound Scottish cabin after being trapped for four days.
Youngsters from Consett YMCA, County Durham, and Newcastle Preparatory School were enjoying a skiing break in the Grampian mountains when 10ft snow drifts cut off their isolated youth hostel.
Despite being unable to leave the cabin, youngsters did not let their predicament ruin their holiday.
They spent their time tucking in to the food reserves bought for such an occasion and skiing on nearby slopes.
Billy Robson, senior worker at Consett YMCA, said everyone made the best of the situation.
He said: "They went out skiing on Saturday, but when they came back the hostel was completely snowbound.
"It was totally isolated and the road was not passable. But they didn't let this spoil their trip.
"They had been well prepared for this kind of thing - bringing loads of tinned food - and decided that they would still complete their full ski programme. In some ways it was a good experience for them. It forced them to get on well in close conditions and it would have done them the power of good."
The group was due to return to the North-East last night
