PLANS for traffic-calming measures at an accident blackspot have been approved.

The measures for Trimdon Avenue, Middlesbrough, were discussed by Middlesbrough Borough Council's cabinet.

They were drawn up after 22 accidents were reported there between 1995 and 1999, making the street top of the council's priority for improvements.

Prior to the meeting, nearby residents were asked to comment on two different plans for traffic calming, one more radical than the other.

They voted overwhelmingly in favour of the milder option, with 60 of the 92 per cent in favour of any measures being taken expressing support for it.

A pelican crossing, two zebra crossings and extensive signing, white lining and changes to the road surface's texture and colour will now be introduced.

In a further bid to cut speeding, a 20mph speed limit will be enforced throughout Trimdon Avenue.
