A man has appeared in court accused of causing six deaths in a crash on the A1(M).
Brian France, 54, of Birdwell, Barnsley, South Yorkshire, is charged with six counts of causing death by dangerous driving near Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire, last November 11.
At York Crown Court yesterday, Mr France, the driver of an articulated lorry, was given conditional bail to appear at court on April 27.
The charges allege he caused the deaths of Karen McCutcheon, 39, her husband Colin, 44, of Aberdeen, and Mrs McCutcheon's sister, Sandra Jennings, 37, of Huntington Road, York. They were in a Vauxhall Carlton which overturned.
Three other people, who stopped to help the passengers in the Carlton, also died.
They were Stephen Maddison, 43, and his wife Wendy, 39, of Topcliffe, Thirsk, North Yorkshire, and lorry driver David Cooper, of Handbridge, Chester.
