A young grammar school girl has disappeared after telling friends she was going to visit an older man she met through an Internet chatroom.

Friends of Alison Wood, 15, told detectives that she said she was going to travel to Swindon, Wiltshire, to see a 25-year-old man.

The Rochester Grammar School pupil, who lives in Lordswood, Kent, has been missing since leaving school last Friday afternoon.

Police found love letters and e-mails in the teenager's bedroom and are analysing her family's computer.

Her father, Colin, a tax consultant, has travelled to Swindon to try to find her.

The missing teenager, who is 5ft 4ins tall, slim, with light hair, was wearing a blue blazer and blue tartan skirt.

She is believed to have £200 cash with her, given to her on her birthday last year.

Detective Inspector Dave Withers, of Kent Police, said that her brother had received a text message from her saying, "I am happy, but I am never coming home"
