Bishop Auckland Youth and Community Centre has received an Investors in Children award, but youth worker Joan Denes says credit should go to the youngsters, who take responsibility for most activities.
She said: "Everything we're doing at the centre comes from the young people, their ideas and their wants and needs."
The teenagers, from the Woodhouse Close estate, are aged between 13 and 16
