A GIANT birthday cake wrapped in barbed wire was the centre piece at a party outside a prison on Saturday.
Friends and supporters of Tayyip Oruc, a Kurdish refugee from Turkey, gathered outside Stockton's Holme House prison to mark his 28th birthday.
About 30 people attended the party as a protest against him being held there in readiness for his deportation, scheduled for tomorrow.
They left at the request of police after attempting to deliver a party invitation to Mr Oruc.
Campaigner Pete Widlinski, of the North of England Refugee Service, said: "Tayyip was arrested and detained last Monday and Immigration intend to deport him tomorrow.
"They dismissed new evidence about his family's persecution by the Turkish authorities in 15 minutes.
"This is a disgrace and will be challenged under the Human Rights Act."
