A TEENAGER accused of manslaughter was allowed bail yesterday after a £50,000 surety was lodged.
Christopher Howard, 18, was charged with the unlawful killing of Anthony Walker, outside Toxin's nightclub in Middlesbrough.
Mr Howard, from Evesham Road, Middlesbrough, was freed from custody by Teesside magistrates after an uncle put up the £50,000 bail bond. The teenager was ordered to abide by a 10pm to 8am curfew at his home.
Mr Walker, a steel erector with a 14-year-old son, lost his fight for life 24 hours after the incident outside the club in Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough, in the early hours of last Friday.
He suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to Middlesbrough General Hospital after the incident.
Mr Walker's death comes just weeks after he saved his girlfriend from a masked prowler.
The 32-year-old, from Stirling Way, Thornaby, was returning home from a night out with his girlfriend when they spotted a balaclava clad man hiding in their garden.
Mr Walker attempted to detain him, but, following a violent struggle in which the intruder was unmasked, he escaped.
Police later revealed that the prowler fitted the description of a sex attacker who had assaulted a number of women in Thornaby last year.
Neither the prowler nor the sex attacker has been caught by the police.
Anyone with any information about the attack outside the nightclub is asked to contact Middlesbrough CID on (01642) 303126.
