PUPILS at a Darlington school are enjoying greener surroundings because of a free trees scheme. The grounds of 11 of the town's schools have been enhanced by Darlington Borough Council's Local Agenda 21 Free Trees scheme.
Councillor Stephen Harker, the council's cabinet member for community protection, visited Harrogate Hill Junior School yesterday, to see how much the trees have grown since last year. Seven community groups have also benefited from the scheme, including Rockliffe Court Community for the disabled and Holy Trinity Church. Anyone who owns or manages land in Darlington can receive trees to plant.
Up to ten trees per individual and 40 for schools and community groups can be obtained. For details (01325) 388582 before Friday
