RESIDENTS have been invited to make a lasting contribution to their community by planting a tree at the weekend.
The event, held as part of the national Trees of Time and Place campaign, will be staged at Chester-le-Street Riverside Park, from 11am to 4pm, on Sunday.
As well as adding to the Great North Forest, visitors will have the chance to make a caterpillar, build bird boxes, and create word and poetry scrolls, helped by Chilean artist Enrique Azocar.
A storyteller will lead visitors to a site in the park to plant the trees.
The free event is funded by the Countryside Agency, the Great North Forest and Groundwork West Durham and Chester-le-Street.
Soft drinks will be available at a small cost. Children under eight must be accompanied.
