PUB-GOERS raised their glasses yesterday to their landlord, who wed a customer he first saw across his crowded bar.
Champagne and lager flowed for the Valentine's Day wedding of Adrian Rowland, landlord of the Royal George pub in Shildon and Jane Barber.
Adrian met Jane when he was the pub's manager, nearly four years ago.
His parents used to run the business, and he has since taken it over from them.
So it was fitting yesterday that the couple nipped along the road from the pub to St John's Church to get married. Then family, friends and customers returned for a reception, along with the men's and women's darts teams, the dominoes team and pool team.
The brewery donated a bottle of champagne and keg of lager.
Adrian, who ended up helping behind the bar during the reception, said they had picked Valentine's Day so that he would not forget his wedding anniversary.
It is back to work for Adrian tomorrow, but on Monday the couple are hoping to set off on their honeymoon.
