BUS passengers in Ferryhill have been left scratching their heads because a bus stop has been moved without warning.
The stop in Ravensworth Road was moved around the corner to Raby Road last week , but no one knows why.
The switch baffled passengers, who did not know whether to stand at the new or old stop site.
One regular passenger said: "They thought the council had decided to put the bus stop somewhere else for some unknown reason, and there were lots of people wondering why the stop had been moved.
"The bus drivers were stopping at the new place, but they knew nothing about it, so confusion reigned all round."
The bus stop was in the new spot for about four or five days before it was realised what had happened.
The pole had been pulled out of the ground by vandals, who dragged it around the corner.
Council workmen were called out, but instead of replacing it in its original hole, they planted it where they had found it.
A spokesman for Durham County Council admitted a mistake had been made and added: "We are sorry if it has caused any confusion or added to the inconvenience caused by the vandals in the first place."
The bus stop has now been moved back to its correct location in Ravensworth Road.
