ONE of the region's schools has been told it is making "sound progress" by inspectors.
Teachers, pupils and other staff at a Gateshead school are now aiming to make even more improvements after an inspection by Government education watchdogs.
Windmill Hills Primary School received the report from the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) at the school in November.
The school, which has 138 pupils, aged four to 11, received praise from the inspection team which said that the school's "pastoral care is good" as is the provision in the Foundation Stage, in which "pupils make sound progress".
The school, according to the report, also makes good provision for the spiritual, moral and social development of the pupils. The cultural development of pupils is also very good.
Inspectors acknowledged the improvements the school has made since its last inspection in 1998.
According to the report, the school has been "successful in meeting some of the recommendations of the last inspection".
Staff have been involved in a skills training programme, and the teaching standard has improved.
Headteacher Stephanie Brandon said: "We are pleased with the positive aspects of the report, but we are firmly committed to carrying on improving our standards.
