AN INQUEST which resumes today could finally shed light on the mystery death of a pensioner who was found in a beck ten months ago.
The body of Alice Rudd, 86, was discovered in Crook Beck, on the Watergate Estate, Crook, County Durham, last April.
Her body was found following a police search which had been sparked by the discovery of her handbag nearby.
At the opening of the inquest last year, consultant pathologist Dr Anthony Senadhira said her death had been caused by asphyxia due to drowning.
Her son, John Rudd, said at the time he could not understand how she had managed to travel a quarter of a mile from her bungalow in Rydal Drive to the beck.
He said she was recovering from a broken hip.
Police were carrying out an investigation but were not treating the pensioner's death as suspicious.
An inquest will take place at Bishop Auckland this afternoon
