TWO athletes from Richmond and Zetland Harriers and one from Loftus AC picked up gold medals when they helped the Yorkshire under 20 women's team win the UK inter-counties cross country title on Saturday.
In the race at Wollaton Park, Nottingham, Andrea Woodvine, who lives near Northallerton, completed the 6,000m course in 21 minutes 26 seconds to take 32nd place, with Louise Jackson, from Richmond, 18 seconds behind her in 36th place.
The other members of the victorious team were Loftus AC's Catherine Hare, who is at Loughborough University, and Natalie White from Holmfirth.
In all, eight Richmond and Zetland athletes paraded their talents at the country's premier cross country event.
They were competing against the best cross country runners in the UK on a challenging course befitting a national championship and all can be justifiably proud of their performances.
The course was firm underfoot and remained in good condition despite the rain, which started to fall halfway through the meeting.
Scott Wardman also collected a team medal as part of the Yorkshire under 17 boys team which finished third. He covered the 6,000m course in 24:17 to take 137th place in a field of 258 competitors.
Ashleigh Robinson ran for the under 13 girls team over a 3,000m course and finished in 135th place from a field of 293 athletes.
She crossed the line in 13:43 and the Yorkshire team finished in 19th place.
Phillip Fitzpatrick had an excellent run for the under 13 boys team, completing the 3,000m course in 12:15 to finish 67th in a field of 281 athletes.
He was also unlucky to miss out on a team medal as the Yorkshire team finished fourth, just one point behind Hampshire.
Richmond had two competitors in the under 15 boys team, competing over a 4,500m course with 294 other runners.
Both athletes performed well, with Nick Zissler taking 62nd place in 16:34 and Shane Murphy finishing just 30 seconds behind him in 128th place. The team took ninth place overall.
Helen Darbyshire completed the 5,000m course for the under 17 girls team in a time of 23:51, taking 151st place. The team finished in sixth place.
