A GIRL has seen her artwork transformed into a poster with a dramatic message.
Cheryl Daniel, 11, drew a cartoon of a young girl sitting with her back to a locked door and the sound of arguing in a graphic illustration to support a domestic violence campaign. The slogan reads, "Don't Keep It Locked Up".
Yesterday, Redcar MP Mo Mowlam congratulated Cheryl and presented her with a £50 prize for her youth club, based at Eston Park School, near Middlesbrough.
Youth club members Paul Johnson and Laura Kobayashi, who organised the competition by circulating youth clubs and gaining funding from Teesside Health Action Zone, also received certificates from Ms Mowlam.
Posters featuring the designs of Cheryl and three runners- up will be displayed in schools, youth clubs, health and leisure centres and libraries in Redcar and Cleveland.
NSPCC social worker Trish Bridgewater, who helped organise the competition, said: "We're sure our message will come across loud and clear. It's all about where children can get help from."
Key numbers to ring are ChildLine, on 0800 1111, Childcall, on 0800 774466, the NSPCC helpline, on 0808 8005000, and Redcar and Cleveland women's aid refuge, on (01642) 490917.
