COUNTY Durham Scouts' Frosty Camp lived up to its name as the white stuff greeted youngsters when they awoke yesterday morning.
However, the 500 boys and girls, aged 11 to 18, who gathered at the county scout association's headquarters, near Durham City, did not mind.
The 14-acre site at Moor House, Rainton Gate, hosted the association's winter jamboree, which meant three days of fun and activities for scout and guide groups from Tyneside to Darlington.
The youngsters slept in tents and took part in quad bike racing, clay pigeon shooting, an assault course, 30ft abseil, and crafts.
It also included a disco in a large marquee.
County manager Graeme Popay said: "We have a camp in September called Confido and one in winter.
"It has been fantastic, and everyone seems to have enjoyed it. There has been a really good atmosphere. It has been like Glastonbury for scouts.'
