THE CLASS of 1951 at a girls' school are invited to a day of nostalgia, in a golden jubilee reunion later this year.
Members of the year group which started at Durham Girls' Grammar School - now the Sixth Form Centre - in Providence Row, in September 1951, are welcome to join the fun on the 50th anniversary weekend.
Organiser Kathleen Tweddle, nee Foster, has made contact with about half of the year intake of 70 11-year-olds, as far afield as the north of Scotland to Kent and Devon.
But she hopes word will reach the rest of the girls who donned the familiar brown and white uniforms and velour hats for the first time in the autumn of 1951.
"We would love to hear of anyone else who was in the year group which was at the school between 1951 and 1956, or 1958 if they stayed on to the sixth form.
"They will remember the headteacher, Miss Graham, and the brown and white uniforms. We started with these velour hats, but by the time we left it had changed to berets."
The reunion, on Saturday September 15, consists of an afternoon of memorabilia at the school, looking through old photographs, magazines and other documents, over tea and cakes.
In the evening, there will be a celebratory dinner at Mount Oswald Golf Club, off south Road, Durham.
Further information is available from Mrs Tweddle, on 0191-512 0185, or Anne James, nee Simpson, on 0191-384 6036.
