POLICE are attempting to piece together the last moments of a Darlington woman who was killed by a train.
The body of Vera Ann Watson, 37, was found on the north- bound line, yards away from the platform at Darlington railway station.
She was hit by a Kings Cross to Edinburgh train as it pulled into the station at 4.10pm on Sunday.
British Transport Police say the death was not being treated as suspicious, although inquiries were continuing to establish the facts.
The coroner has been informed and a post-mortem examination is being carried out on the dead woman, whose address has not been released.
An inquest is expected to be opened and adjourned shortly.
A spokesman for train operator GNER said the incident happened south of platform four. The driver involved was shaken and had to be sent home
