DOZENS of worthy causes in the North-East have benefited from thousands of pounds in grants awarded by a charity.
Christ's Hospital, in Sherburn, County Durham, also known as Sherburn Hospital and Sherburn House Charity, announced grants of £1.2m in its first three years of renewed grant-giving to organisations in the region.
Founded in 1181, Sherburn Hospital also provides residential care for the elderly, and sheltered accommodation.
In addition to grants to organisations, it also gives about £142,000 each year to individuals, who are referred by agencies such as social services.
Among those to benefit in the latest round of grants was After Adoption, which got £10,000.
The Northern Initiative on Woman and Eating was awarded £6,000 over three years to expand its services, while Employment Opportunities for People with Disabilities was awarded £5,000 toward its services.
The presentation ceremony in Newcastle was attended by representatives of 30 groups.
