PASSENGERS flying from Teesside Airport faced the usual frustration when their flight was delayed.
But their frustrations quickly turned to disbelief after it was revealed they had been grounded by of all things - a missing pilot.
The passengers of the 331 British Midland Service had been expecting to catch their flight on time to arrive at London's Heathrow a few hours later. Unfortunately though, due to "unforseen circumstances", no co-pilot was available.
Airline staff had to issue a mayday alert, and eventually managed to locate a stand-by crew member to lend a hand.
The flight, yesterday morning, was then eventually able to take off two and-a-half hours later.
Francesca Marchini, of British Midland, said the airline had suffered a "hitch".
She said: "The situation was caused by the first officer who had been rostered on to the plane but due to unforseen circumstances was unable to make it.
