PEOPLE are forming an action group to campaign to cut the number of lorries thundering past their homes.
Residents of Almond Court, Shildon, will meet tonight to discuss plans to start a petition in the town and the neighbouring village of Middridge.
The campaigners, who have already installed video cameras to monitor the volume of traffic, are asking for weight restrictions to stop heavy goods vehicles travelling down Spout Lane.
Their campaign has been backed by county councillor Tony Moore, and villagers in Middridge, who will attend tonight's meeting.
Caroline Dent, 28, of Almond Court, and neighbour Edward Nicholson, 56, said the cameras had recorded about 250 heavy goods vehicles and buses passing their gardens each day.
Derek Turton, 58, from Northside, Middridge, has presented a map of the area to Coun Moore, showing the problem sites.
"I can sympathise with the people living in Almond Court. The bigger traffic is travelling through Middridge and Spout Lane to get to the Industrial Estate,'' said Mr Turton.
Coun Moore said weight restrictions to stop traffic coming through Middridge would ease traffic in Spout Lane.
But Durham County Council says weight restrictions could lead to more traffic travelling through Shildon town centre
