CASH to care for the people who care has been granted to a north Durham group.
The Leadgate Carers were presented with a National Lottery Awards for All grant at a ceremony in Leadgate, near Consett.
The group, of people who devote their lives to looking after sick and disabled loved ones, was formed in 1999.
The money is to be used to hold events, organise outings, visit other groups and to help give carers a voice.
Leadgate Carers secretary Pat Barron said: "We have a laugh, a joke and a natter. It's great to have a break with people who understand - even just for a few hours."
Treasurer Syd French said: "Having funds will allow the group to become an even more serious force - speaking up for carers whenever that is needed."
