CHURCHGOERS are in for some divine inspiration, thanks to the restoration of a religious work of art.
This weekend, parishioners at St. James' Church, in Albert Hill, Darlington, County Durham, will see for the first time the completed restoration of a 125 year-old painting depicting the crucifixion of Christ.
The restoration has been carried out by Northallerton specialist in fine art Andrew Clarke, as part of the church's 125th anniversary celebrations.
Father Ian Grieves is delighted with the results of the work.
He said: "I have had people come into the church who are in their 60s, and have been coming here since they were children, who have said they have never seen the colours look like this."
Around £55,000 is to be spent on the church, with the restoration of stained glass windows, installation of a new sound system and the painting of railings still on the list of jobs to be carried out
