PARENTS in Darlington are being urged to learn a few valuable lessons from their own children as part of a road safety campaign.
In a scheme introduced by Darlington Borough Council, parents and carers in the town are being asked to sign the Parents Parking Charter as their children are enrolled in school.
The initiative will run across all 35 of the town's primary and infant schools, and is designed to make adults aware of the dangers of parking outside schools.
The charter states that the parent or carer is concerned about the safety of children outside schools and makes a promise that they will always park safely.
To help bring the scheme to the attention of parents, the council has organised a competition inviting pupils to design a car sticker promoting safer parking outside schools.
The sticker design needs to be approximately 27cm wide, 8cm deep and in two colours.
The winner will receive a month's free swimming pass for a child and adult.
Entries for the Design a Sticker competition can be sent to Norma Sheppard, Road Safety Officer, Hopetown House, Brinkburn Road, Darlington DL3 6ED, and must be received no later than March 9.
