A CENTRE offering advice and training for homeless young people could soon be established.
Hambleton District Council has received an application from the YMCA to convert a property in Northallerton into a foyer which would focus on helping disadvantaged young people, aged 16 to 25.
A council spokesman said the provision of a foyer had long been identified as a target in the authority's housing plans.
A suitable property has been found in the town and could provide up to ten one-bed flats, a reception area, office, kitchen, meeting room and training room.
The spokesman said: "Demand for advice and assistance for housing from young people is high in Hambleton, and with the changes to homelessness legislation, more young people are seen as being in need and eligible for assistance.
"Accommodation of varying types is needed to fulfil current and future demand from young people.
"Very limited accommodation is available, particularly for homeless young people, who frequently have to be temporarily housed outside the district.
